For anyone thrown into the role of caregiver, you know that the learning curve is steep and the emotions are high. Navigating medical jargon, making critical life decisions, and managing logistics—all while dealing with the emotional highs and lows of caring for a loved one—can be daunting. Our client had faced these challenges firsthand and felt like she had to piece her support system together herself.
Caregiving is a critical, and common, life moment that could benefit from a steady, guiding companion to walk you through the turmoil. Enter Caregiven.
Strategic Planning
We partnered closely with our client to define Caregiven’s value. Together, we:
- Shaped a comprehensive business plan.
- Conducted a competitive analysis.
- Formed the product’s unique value proposition.

A 2×2 we included as part of the landscape analysis
These foundational documents not only crystallized her vision but also proved invaluable in securing investor interest and funding.
Design Discovery
We named the key personas who would use the Caregiven tool and mapped out their workflows. But diagrams rarely tell a good story. We took it one step further and developed storyboards to illustrate the product’s key features and benefits, ensuring all stakeholders had a clear, shared vision.
We conducted group and individual concept testing sessions to gauge interest for high-cost and high-risk features, like task tracking and medical note taking. We identified key inflection points along the caregiver’s journey, like notifying the service of a patient’s passing, and tested several design options. The insights gleaned from this research allowed us to confidently craft a product feature roadmap.
This gives you something to talk about with the person. Because sometimes all you talk about is their illness and being sick.

Design, Prototype, Test, Repeat
I drafted information architecture for the mobile application and broke it into phases. I got to work on low-fidelity wireframes. Leveraging my expertise, I transformed a few brand elements into the beginning of a comprehensive user interface design. We prototyped these designs and again put them in front of our target users. Feedback was collected and incorporated into the v2 designs.
Armed with these user-validated prototypes, our client was well-prepared to seek further funding and partnerships.
Outcome
Caregiven has since achieved significant milestones:
- Secured multiple rounds of funding
- Integrated into employer benefit programs, reaching a wider audience
It is immensely satisfying to help our client’s vision thrive and make a meaningful impact on the lives of caregivers.
